Public Safety

Your town's dispatch,
as it happens.

On conventional channels, the fire, EMS and public-works traffic around you is in the clear. Airwave Scan surfaces the local channels wherever you are, scans them for activity, and decodes the pagers that still carry the call.

Location-aware

The local channels, wherever you are

Drive into a new county and the list refreshes with what's dispatched here — no re-programming, no frequency binder.

  • Fire, EMS & local government — nearby conventional channels drawn from the catalog by location.
  • Scan for what's live — one tap probes the visible channels and lands you on the one that's talking.
  • Star the keepers — pin your home agencies to Saved for a one-tap tune next time.

Conventional voice

Clear audio on the analog channels

Tune a conventional FM channel and listen the way a scanner always has — with the DSP to make a weak, noisy dispatch readable.

  • Analog FM receive — narrow-band FM voice with squelch and gain in reach.
  • Noise reduction — clean up a marginal signal so you catch the address the first time.
  • Record a clip — capture a transmission to a shareable file.
Tuned to Wheaton City dispatch on 153.92 MHz narrowband FM — receiving at -72 dBm, with DeepFilterNet noise reduction, a notch filter and AGC in reach
Paging

The alphanumeric traffic behind the tones

Plenty of fire and EMS systems still page their crews in the clear. Decode the pager network and the messages land in your feed.

  • POCSAG & FLEX — the common paging protocols decoded on the Pi.
  • Into the unified feed — alphanumeric pages threaded in with everything else, newest first.
  • Filterable — keep the feed to just what you're watching for.

Receive-only, and lawful

Airwave Scan only ever listens — it never transmits — and it handles conventional, unencrypted channels; it does not decrypt encrypted systems. Monitoring rules vary by place, so know your local laws before you scan, especially while mobile.

A conventional scanner that travels with you

A VHF/UHF antenna and an RTL-SDR cover the local bands; the app finds the channels and scans them wherever you go.
